Freesia Fragrance for Christmas!

by Flower Experts Editor on December 13th

Of the dazzling panoply of flowers readily available to us in the modern world, freesias stand apart from the pack, primarily because of their fragrance. The flower and the fragrance are among the most popular in the world. Freesias are native to South Africa and it is said that when they were first introduced into cultivation, they caused quite a sensation!

The distinct and widely beloved scent of the Freesia is among one of the most popular of all flower scents, with its signature aroma being an intensely and sweet citrus smell.
Freesias are widely used, not just in perfumes. They are extremely popular in use for aromatherapy, due to its light, airy and crisp scent. The size and range of colours of freesias make them ideal, not only for perfume, but also for a wide variety of bouquets, posies and centrepieces.

In perfumes, Freesia Fragrance is mostly used as a middle note, used to round out other scents within the perfume. The freesia scent can be found in many of the world's best selling perfumes, including Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani, Intuition by Estee Lauder, Red Door by Elizabeth Arden and Rapture by Elizabeth Arden.

Most freesias are available the entire year round, depending on their variety. Colours of freesias range from white, purple, yellow, red and orange. While generally with most species of flower, the white variety will give the strongest scent, the strongest freesia scent is most likely to be found in the red and pink varieties.
